Fire Training Center 1st Priority

Boulder's new Deputy Mayor, Suze Ageton, was the featured speaker Wednesday morning (1/18) at the Boulder Tomorrow monthly breakfast meeting. In prepared remarks. Ms Ageton stated that her first and foremost priority for the 2006 year will be to secure a site and obtain funding for the new Fire Training Center to replace the facility at Lee Hill Road and Broadway.

"This is a critical public safety need that we can no longer afford to debate and defer. I know Council appreciates the urgency of this matter ..." Two sites for the facility are currently being discussed; Valmont Butte (which the City has already purchased for this purpose), and a site at 63td and Lookout. While not expressing a preference for either site, Ms Ageton did say that she definitely wanted to see something decided upon and for work on the site to begin as soon as possible.
