Deputy Mayor Featured Speaker

Economic Signs Generally

Economic signs and trends were also discussed. The Deputy Mayor was positively enthusiastic about her conviction that tourism to Boulder, and developing Boulder's "brand appeal" were very positive steps for the future of the community. A particular bright spot in 2005, and a beacon for future efforts, was the success of a national volleyball tournament which created national television exposure for Boulder's "brand" in broadcasts of the tournament. Ms Ageton also discussed the sizable spend out or downstream purchases from local businesses by participants at the tournament. When reminded later in the Q and A section by one of the local hospitality business managers that the Harvest House spends more per year on advertising Boulder than Boulder spends on advertising Boulder, it was apparent that was not something Ms Ageton had been aware of prior to the meeting.
