The Future of CU & The Media

Hartman spoke with great compassion and optimism towards the future of CU. Phil DiStefano, Bud Peterson, and Hank Brown were each credited for their outstanding work towards making CU the school it is today. A degree of uncertainty was articulated however, through both the issue of growth as well as his personal prediction of Brown to be stepping down sometime next year.

Given Hartman's long time employment by the Daily Camera and continued interaction with media in his current role, topics concerning the local media were unavoidable. Hartman expressed regret towards the cutbacks of his old Camera office, correlating the lack of reporters and emphasis on the bottom line as contributing factors towards an overall weakening of the media. He went on to cite recent experiences at CU of reporters being ill prepared, asking easy generic questions, only in hopes of getting their story produced.
