Utilities Director Ned Williams
Concerns
Ned expressed that the program is aware of the issues surrounding the current pricing structure and spoke of the ways in which it is adapting. Currently, there is an appeals process for a higher allotted amount of water which maintains an 89% approval rate. Other broader changes to the program that are 'in the pipes' include seasonal changes in water allocation and raising the overall water allottment.
The admittedly punitive system was under high debate amongst Boulder Tomorrow members. While rates charged within the allotted amount of water usage are within reason, the system is designed for certain areas to exceed their allotment. In fact, the budget would fail if all sectors did stay within their allotted water usage.
An avidly contested issue, Boulder Tomorrow will track the development of the water use and pricing structure closely.
